I reviewed
Wolf Parade's show for
pennyblackmusic.com, and spent an unreasonable time going back through the text making sure I got the name right since I kept referring to them as Wolf Eyes. Well, at least I didn't call the Wolfmother, We Are Wolves or any of the other wolfish acts out there. This show probably should have gone to the Capital Music Hall instead of Barrymore's - it sold out (of course) and quickly at that. No doubt the band's popularity owes much to the
unabashed Canuckophiles at Pitchfork, but to give credit where it's due, their debut full length is a fine thing too. The band's live show has a lot going for it too, particularly in regard to Hadji Bakara's electronic surprises and guitarists singer Dan Boeckner's stage style.
Spencer Krug, back on the keys. He was in town a few days previous with his other band, Sunset Rubdown.
The other side of Spencer.
Dan waves the mop.
Hadji in the gloom.
Lupine action! With former Hot Hot Heat guitarist Dante DeCaro at right.
More Krug!
More Boeckner!
More Dante hitting that thing, whatever it is!
A particularly Stygian photo of the Parade.
Ooh, you can even make out drummer Arlen Thompson in this picture.
That was a good performance, but I found Frog Eyes more entertaining.
- Show reminder: Fourth and Tilda perform at The Rainbow.
