Houses of the holy

Holy Fuck performed what might be called analogue techno. They use a live rhythm section and various jury-rigged devices, including guitar pedals, cheesy keyboards, toy instruments and a 35mm film synchronizer, to create IDM soundscapes. They also move around a fair bit, considering their two most prominent members are working off tabletops.

Brian Borcherdt steps out from behind the film synchronizer for a little audience heart-to-heart.

Not Kevin Lynn, as this post originally stated, but Mike Bigelow, bops around.

Loel concentrates. The tongue helps.

Graham Walsh phones it in.

And gets mellotronic.

Yes, I did take a lot of Bigelow'n'Walsh photos.

Kevin gets bendy.

In the crowd.

Twist action!

Anyway, a few weeks later - August 4th, to be exact - I caught them playing an even hotter set - musically, that is. Holy Fuck had already begun when I walked into Barrymore's at 9:35. Were they better because their analogue techno seemed more at home in a dance club than a high school sports field? Was it because they had founding member Glenn Milchem on drums? Was it because Barrymore's wasn't 35 Celsius under a blazing sun?
As before, their live rhythm section provided a driving beat for Borcherdt and Walsh to surround with the clicking, beeping and clonking sounds of their musical grab bag. Pictures stunk, unfortunately.

They also got a boost from Wolf Parade'’s Hadji Bakara, who showed up to "“help us freak out."

Hey there, I know this was posted a while ago, but I thought you might like to know that Kevin Lynn isn't actually in any of the Holy Fuck photos...it's Mike Bigelow, who took over for him mid-2006. :)
