Aurelio Martinez was not a performer I'd planned to watch, but since he was at the Black Sheep Stage when I wandered over to get a good seat for Konono No. 1, I caught a good helping of his set. Martinez must have been born on stage; his band was on fire and he was definitely engaged with the audience: A real live wire. His music is in the Garifuna tradition, which began with slaves on the Honduras-Belize coast back in the 1600s.
Martinez mostly played guitar, but there was also some percussion.
His band was also in excellent form.
Garifuna action!
Martinez also gave some impromptu dance lessons for the crowd. It's all in the bum, apparently.
Some a cappela, as well.
A very entertaining show, and a very hard act to follow.
