Waving the flag

Petra Glynt is one of those performers I try to catch whenever she's in town; when she was slated to appear on a bill with Bonnie Doon and Sparklesaurus it was plain that Targ was the place for me to be for her late November show. Here's Colleen from Sparklesaurus to start things off!

Petra Glynt rounded things up with a super set. She released a new album, My Flag Is A Burning Rag Of Love in September, so she had a bunch of new stuff to entertain the crowd.

Little big men

A couple of weeks back I popped over to Pressed to check out Saint John quartet Little You, Little Me. There was also sterling opening set from local musician My Friend PJ (that's the name of his solo act; we've never actually spoken, though I've seen him perform with Brights, Gallop and David Little G). Here's PJ!

I can't say enough good things about LYLM, who have a sound that's a bit Weezer-like with a touch of Sugar. They were on tour behind a new single. Here's some singalong action with Corey and Geoffrey!

Everybody loves Jam

There was only one place to be for a blog documenting the local music scene: Shawn Jam at the House of Targ. For those of you who missed the CBC story (or Neal Johnstone's writeup in the HoT zine), Shawn "Jam" Hill has played guitar in a heap of local bands, many of which have been featured on the blog: Klovenhoofs, Garaga and The Mighty Eagle Band to name but a few. He was injured in mysterious circumstances earlier this year and is recovering in hospital. The Shawn Jam was put together by bandmate Johnny Nash to help raise funds to support his family, and a bunch of local musicians performed, including a bunch of folks who haven't shared a stage in some time. Thunderuncle X got things off to a good start. Here's Jon!

The next appearance was a bit of a surprise - it's been a good dozen years since Bitchin Camaros hit the stage together. This was Shawn's post-King Kung combo (if memory serves), and fellow bandmembers Johnny (Neck, Longtimers, etc., Adam (Boom Creek) and Jean reunited to help out. Here's Jean!
