It all adds up

Like I Refuse, Year Zero weren't interested in a long stay on stage — they wanted to see Leatherface. The quartet is getting a lot of props in the local musical community, and many are looking forward to Year One, the followup to their debut tape.

Tim Ostler gets the fisheye stretch.

And that's it but because true to their word they left in a hurry to make way for Yesterday's Ring.

Rite of refusal

You know when a band like Leatherface comes to town there are going to be a lot of local bands wanting to get on the bill. Hardcore activists I Refuse were among the lucky ones this time around. I have no idea who the individual band members are, and I guess I'm not going to find out because in the weeks following this show they decided to call it a day. They say they might have a final show sometime.

Decoration day

Ornaments finished the night off. They're another new band that seems to enjoy mixing up classic rock influences into something new. They cite Neil Young, Led Zep, punk rock, Pink Floyd and have laid down an EP with Paul "Yogi" Granger of Double Pumpers and Tokyo Sex Whale.

David Pierce on guitar, with drummer Kevin Kozachanko in back.

They've got a fairly busy schedule ahead, with their next Ottawa date April 24 at the Avant-Garde Bar and another Rainbow Bistro gig June 2.
  • Show reminder: Nunslaughter, Violentada and Naartok perform at Gatineau's Hullhouse; Orchid Thieves, The Wheat Pool, No Fly List and The Panama play Zaphod's; Andy Cotter is at the Rainbow.

In a jam

Face of Jam are a band I've wanted to chck out for some time. I wasn't sure I'd like them, but their track online had piqued my interest. Some folks might say that they lack a little bit in the concision department when it comes to live music, but since they have jam in their name you can't accuse them of false advertising. Let's just call 'em a power trio with diverse interests.

Adam! Pat! Lucas!

Their next show is at The Elmdale House Tavern April 29 (and if you're hankering for Kill City after yesterday's post, they're on the bill too, with Riishi Von Rex).
