Youth of the Nation
Sonic Youth played Capital Music Hall August 6 - a day before my birthday, as it happens - and were excellent. Not as super as Wilco a couple of days earlier, but still very, very good.
The place was jammed, so I was pretty well stuck in one place for photos, but things turned out all right.
I must point out that, in addition to her musical talents, Kim Gordon has incredibly toned legs. I'm sure Lee Ranaldo does too, but it was hard to tell in those pants.
Thurston Moore tries some unorthodox fretting techniques.
Ranaldo, Jim O'Rourke (who's an excellent solo artist as well) and Gordon lean into the music.
You can almost make out drummer and Smells Like Records supremo Steve Shelley at right.
Les Georges Leningrad opened the show, and were completely weird. I'll post on them later.
