Canadian Idol

Crackly voiced singer-songwriter Jason Collett can sound a bit gloomy on record; live his down-and out tales get a vital boost. His music makes me think of Wilco's early years. There was a large, enthusiastic crowd for this gig on The MBNA Stage.

Jason Collett.

Assorted Paso Minoans and an Apostle of Hustle.

As I mentioned early, Feist came on stage to sing along, play some drums, and nab the flower from Collett's buttonhole.

Feist and the purloined flower (tucked in her ear).

Feist keeps the beat.

Instrument switching action!

Singalong action!

Jason goes down before Feist.

Jason strips for action.

One of the audience members couldn't bear Collett's remarks about how well-behaved Ottawans are, so he leapt on stage to harangue the crowd to cause trouble; polite trouble.

A very satisfactory set. I enjoyed it much more than his Bluesfest performance last year, which was pretty good in itself.
