The Khan show

King Khan! Once upon a time he was but a humble bassist in Montreal garage rock combo The Spaceshits, operating under the name Blacksnake. I attended a show where I saw him drop his trousers and jump on a table occupied by a pair of women deep in conversation. They glanced over at the Blacksnake johnson and fled in terror. Oh, just kidding - they kept talking. It was a pretty imperturbable crowd at Lucky Ron's in those days. This time the pants on his 1970s style leisure suit remained aloft as he growled out his 60s garage soul rockers - a good long set it was too; 19 songs in all. The names come from grunnenrocks, so they may be approximate.

Khan, man.

Guitarist Mr. Speedfinger - a real scene stealer. Quite a bouncy fellow, too.

Bassist Riddiman.

The horn section: Big Fred Rollercoaster; "Ladies and gentlemen ... Mr. Ben-Ra!" and Sam Francisco.

It's tough getting a good percussionist photo when they've got a dancing girl in front of them. Well, I guess the view is nice.

Ron Streeter is a soul longtimer, having played with Ike and Tina Turner, Bo Diddley and Curtis Mayfield.

Jon Boy Adonis.

And let us not forget ... dancing girl Bamboorella!

Holy jumping guitarists!

Singalong action!

Get down!

The King works the krowd.

Soul action!

He's got the power!

Percussing and dancing action!

Guitar action!

"Now it's time for some ... Torture!"

How do you end a show like this?!? With more jumping guitarists, of course.

Actually, they capped their extensive set with a cover of The Saints' Know Your Product. A rollicking show, and an amazing turnout for a Tuesday.
