A chill in the air

It's definitely getting into the winter show season, with international acts heading south to escape our frosty climes ... we get a burst of shows at Babylon after next weekend, with the Immortal Lee County Killers and Thee Shams Nov. 14, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings Nov. 15, and The Fleshtones with The Glads (back from a bonebreaking summer hiatus) Nov. 16.; Bad Religion, Anti-Flag and Protest The Hero play the Capital Music Hall Nov. 17 and then The Black Keys, Nathaniel Mayer, Weapons of Mass Seduction and the Golden Famile help CKCU ring in its 30th anniversary Nov. 18 at Barrymore's.
After that, we may have to be content with our fine homegrown talent ... but - and this a big old but! - I must direct your attention to a show Nov. 9 at The Dominion. You may remember a while back the mighty Lost Sounds were scheduled to play that very same venue. I can't recall if I was out of town or they didn't make it over the border, but I didn't get to see them, and earlier this year they broke up. That stinks, because they were an awesome art-damaged-new wave punk collosus, and featured such way great Memphis musicians as Jay Reatard and Alicja Trout. Well, Alicja's new band, The River City Tanlines is playing the Dom on Wednesday. The band is rounded out by bassist Terrence "T-Money" Bishop, who has played with Kenny Brown and fellow Brown alumni John "Bubba" Bonds. Also on Bubba and T-Money's mutual resume: Tearjerkers, R.L. Burnside, Subteens, . The band's myspace stuff sounds more like poppy punk than the @#$!ed up Memphis blooz, but still ... do you want to miss this show? Of course not.
