Southside stands

Among Bluesfest perennials, That 1 Guy probably has the most remarkable instrument - a series of pipes crafted into a one-of-a-kind percussion instrument. He's also been known to plug his boot into an amp and play it as well. I quite like the sound of his music, but I confess that some of his lyrics are a bit simple and goofy to tickle my fancy. Still, not a bad backdrop to munch on a hot dog to.

And here he is, whacking his pipes.

Anyway, after the hot dog was finished, it was time for meatier fare. I previously considered going to see Santana, but his massive crowd meant I wouldn't even be able to get close to a Jumbotron. Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes turned out to be more my line anyway, since he's about as close to bar band royalty as it gets. He kept things pretty bluesy.

The man himself, and Jukes bassist John Conte.

The Jukes regular guitarist is Bobby Bandiera, but I believe this tete-a-tete is with Glen Alexander.

Glen sings! In the background, the shadowy figures of the Jukes' brass section, including tenor saxman Joey Stann, trumpeter Chris Anderson, saxophonist Eddie Manion and trombonist Neal Pawley.
