The great old ones

I think I'm flashing back to my teens with all the metal I've been listening to lately ... or relistening, since a bunch of the thrash stuff (particularly Metallica) was coming out when I was in high school. I spent a few years at Immaculata, where there seemed to be a large contingent of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden fans. Metal seems to be one of those genres immune to retro thinking. I mean, Black Sabbath, Angel Witch, Priest, Maiden, Anvil etc. all got it right the first time around so if we just keep doing that we'll all be fine (and deaf). So it we come to the show of March 10, with headliners Cauldron and a bunch of excellent local bands, starting with Naartok who definitely got things off on the right foot with their black'n'roll sound.

First we have guitarist Matt Munro (playing his first live show with the band, if I heard correctly) and frontman Scott Wark with more pointy guitar and some excellent vokills.

A killer live act. No word on future Naartok dates, but Scott's other band, Joe Thrasher, will be performing at Cafe DeKcuf April 17.
  • Show reminder: The Ginger Fox is at The Rainbow. Jello Biafra-approved rockers Grady, Flash Lightnin and Ty Hall and The EZ3 rock mavericks.
