'Round midnight

I hope everyone had a swell New Year's - I did, at the joint Flaps-Empiricals show at Irene's. They pulled the same stunt at Babylon earlier this year, and like that show they had a couple of movies playing behind them, each band played a song before trading off, then finished their sets by playing a tune together. At least, they did for the first two sets; I took off before the third. So, starting things off in alphabetical order, here are DJ Wig - who was spinning discs that night - and the Empiricals.

Wigney sets up another 7-inch.

Now on to the Empiricals - joined on this occasion by Michael Schultz. All they need is a few candles and it's Boycrusher (or 80% of the Hi Lo Trons). With an additional hunting scene, even.

Here's a bounced flash picture of Paul Hogan that turned out nicely.

Mike Dubue hits the keys while Michael Schultz consults the Empiricals Guide to Percussion.

Philip Shaw Bova drums before a big cinema kiss (between Fred Williams and Soledad Miranda in Jesus Franco's Sie Tötete in Ekstase)

Imperial action!

Their next show is Feb 1, at The Aloha Room ( at least in Ottawa - if you happen to be Toronto Jan. 18, they'll be at The Drake Hotel with Boycrusher).
