Live long and post rock

The masked men of Vulcan Dub Squad bring a grab bag of influences to the stage. With the matching outfits you might think surf, and they've produced recordings that range from ambient to mid-80s indie fuzz. I've heard the phrase "garage-psych" bandied about as well, but I can't say I heard it last Friday at Zaphod's: They was far more post rock than pre-punk in the mix. Their performance was a bit of a mixed bag too. Their opening song was horribly, horribly wimpy, particularly the vocals. It was a bit on the slow side, too. Fortunately the band found their feet after that, and were definitely playing up a storm by the time 11 p.m. rolled around.

Singer Ranbir Gundu declares imminent get-downness.

... And does some funny dancing; drummer David Croft and guitarist Graham Wilson play on.

Bassist Matt DelBuono from an odd angle.

Vulcan rock action!

An audience member seeks permission to launch from guitarist Graham.

Permission granted!

More Vulcan rock action!

They were good ... they could lose the masks, though.
