All the way from Anaheim

I approached The Willowz with some trepidation, since reviewers can't seem to avoid making them sound horribly pretentious. In reality, they're a garage band that have been listening to some stop-start post punk and Pink Floyd, I think. One moment they're all quiet, the next they're jamming out on some amped-up version of a Love tune.

Frontman Richie James Follin; behind him is drummer and "beautiful blond boy" Alex Nowicki.

Jessica Anne Reynoza on bass; not shown: pretty shoes.

Guitarist Dan Bush also played a little bit of organ near the end of the show. (Plus a little more Nowicki and a lot more Minnie Mouse.)

Reynoza was having fun swinging and doing the bump.

Twist and shake!

Singalong action.

Reynoza from the floor.

And the whole long-haired crew. Fun fact: I took this picture upside down.

They arrived a little late, so their set was slightly curtailed by the beginning of the Mod Club, but they put in a very solid 40 minutes or so. Damn shame so many people missed it ...
  • Show reminder: Kingston Fog release their CD at Zaphod's, Turning Into Salt and Dead Messenger kick in. It's an evening of laughs (or at least uncomfortable silence and uncomfortable noise) as Neil Hamburger and Daiquiri strut their stuff at Maverick's.
