Egad, they've lost weight. All kidding aside, a helpful band pal came up with the skull during a sojourn in Nunanvut. Musk Ox (the band) were headlining an all-instrumental lineup, starting with Guelph 12-string virtuoso Michael Mucci. I bought Mucci's first album, Under The Tulip Tree about five years ago and have been hankering to see him live since then. He's played town on several occasions, but the stars never aligned until Friday night.

Up next was Flying Horses, the brainchild of Jade Bergeron, who brought along a gaggle of music boxes and a toy carousel, along with a zither, glockenspiel and an electric piano for some sprightly (and slightly creepy ... I think music boxes are mostly used for horror movie atmosphere these days) set. She was accompanied by Raphael Weinroth-Brown from Musk Ox on cello and Karolyne LaFortune on violin. Here she is setting up.

Then it was Musk Ox's turn mainman Nathanael Larochette was once again accompanied by Weinroth-Brown and violinist Evan Runge. They took on a new challenge for this show, playing a single, one-hour piece all the way through.
