Crown of creation

On Saturday I toddled over to Birdman Sound for a set by The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol. The iconic Glebe vinyl emporium is calling it a day at that location (owner John Westhaver is shifting toward popups, drop-offs and the like going forward), and TBWNIAS was to have played at Targ for Psychfest III (now delayed to a post-Covid era), so the band decided to commemorate the event with a live stream on Facebook. After some kludging with the Internet, things got underway. Here's Nate and John!

Ottawa Psych Fest: Night 2

The second night of Psych Fest at House of Targ was a roaring success, but things started off with an unfortunate blunder on my part: As Wasted Cathedral was starting things up, I realized I'd forgotten to remove my camera battery from the charger at home. Oops. After watching the first bit of Chris from Shooting Gun's set, I zipped off home to fetch my battery and returned in time to catch the start of Technicolor Blood's super set. Here's Marty on vocals and guitar!

Chicago's Plastic Crimewave Syndicate brought things to a close. Main man Steve Krakow is a well-known illustrator and publisher of the hand-written and drawn music mag Galactic Zoo Dossier. Here he is starting things off with some keyboard!

Get it in writing

In the early days of May I rode over to the House of Targ to check out some country action; the headliners were Brockville combo The Rifle & The Writer, while opening duties where handled by Revenant Dan & The Murder Crows, who also happen to be performing this Friday at Irene's. Here's Dan and fiddler Keith, who has made a few appearances on the blog before with Fiftymen.

Strange places

As April arrived I headed over to the Glebe for a rare show at the Clocktower. The basement space was quite packed for a mostly instrumental outing from Room Control, Forgotten In The Woods Again, The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol and City Gates. FITWA were up first, reduced to a trio for this occasion. Here's Skotty on hooded guitar!
