The Home team

Home is the archetypical example of the overworked and underappreciated band. The band's latest album, Sexteen, is in fact their 16th - the first eight were cassettes distributed in their Florida homebase. They're also part of the Screw Music Forever collective. They sound a bit like early Flaming Lips.

Guitarist Andrew Deutsch.

Eric Morrison on keys.

Brad Truax - he's been to Ottawa with Dan Melchior as well.

Drummer Chris Millstein.

Domestic action!

And now some lighting fun! Lots of overexposure, which is appropriate for a band with a lot of sex songs, isn't it?

Andrew ditched the guitar to hop about.

Swirly light action! Okay, so no one can tell what the hell is going on ... but swirly lights, people!

I gather from Brad Truax's tour diary that after the show everyone went to Flecton's house to party. I quote:
"Woke up, and went downstairs and the party was still going in OTTAWA. Eric and Chris were still up with Karen, Fleck, and some other dudes I didn't recognize. Beers still cracked, and eyes wide open (uh oh)."
Fun show. The turnout was low (Stanley Cup action that night, not to mention Michael Weston Smith at Irene's) but enthusiastic.

Home run

It's a short jaunt from my downtown apartment to Babylon; I made it to catch Home and Flecton and The Big Sky Orchestra perform. Great sets from both bands, and an unexpected opener.

"Gee," you may be thinking "Is that blurred figure Bobby Powerchords from Jehovah's Wetness making a return to the stage after a six-year absence?" Yes ... yes, it is.

"And is that Flecton, who was also in Jehovah's Wetness, along with Scott Terry, who is in, like a whole bunch of bands, plus the Fiftymen's Jake Bryce." Yes, indeed!

"And is that Home, not that it's easy to tell with all the weirdo shutter speed manipulation?" Uh, yes.

And if you think that's weird, wait until you see the other pictures I took. Anyway it's late and that was my fourth show in as many days, so I'm off to bed.
