Forecast cloudy

Back on December 14 I trotted over to Cinqhole for some post-punk action from Scattered Bones recording artists Pop. 1280 (the third time I've seen them) and local trio Scattered Clouds. Here we go with Phillippe and Jamie!

Bondar bassist Gary was on hand to fill out the low end.

I've always enjoyed Pop. 1280; they were a little bit less frenzied this time around, but still good. Here's frontman Chris!

Two, three and more

I had a hankering to see Deux Trois again after their October show at Targ, and just my luck they were back in town on a bill with Scattered Clouds and Greathunter. This was my first time seeing Greathunter, but there's a few familiar faces, starting with guitarist and singer Andrew (also of Those Gulls and Decathlete).

Repeat as necessary

Boyhood has just released a new album Bad Mantras, and main brain Caylie got a chance to play some tunes from it (along with older stuff) for a packed crowd at Black Squirrel Books on Aug. 10. Caylie was joined by brother Callum and Philippe from Scattered Clouds. She'll be back in town Nov. 2 for a set at the NAC.

Ottawa Explosion: Day 2, Part I

Day 2 at the Ottawa Explosion added the Dominion Tavern to the list of venues, so showgoers could bounce back between the Dom and The 27 Club. Scattered Clouds kicked things off. Last time I saw them was also at Ottawa Explosion, back in 2016 at Club SAW. They're playing a few shows out west, then coming back to Ottawa for a Bluesfest gig. Here's Philippe!

The bands at The Dominion ran to a more punk sound, starting with Omerta. Here's Sierra!

I forget who was supposed to play at the Dom next (I believe it was Strange Attractor), but Faze, who were headlining, couldn't make it, so Ottawa's The Shame were called in as a replacement. Here's Mikey!
