For the birds

I went to Zaphod's on Monday to check out The Floor since XPress drooled over them so magnanimously in their last issue. Also on the bill were Falconhawk from Calgary, Ottawa's Tweak and Vancouver's Retrograde.
Falconhawk, on tour with The Floor, is composed of keyboardist Kara Keith, Chixdiggit chap Dave Alcock on drums and bassist Steve Elaschuk. Tough synth pop with some supple vocals from Ms. Keith are the order of the day. I thought of Gram Rabbit without the western stuff. Extra points also go for the rock kicks and Keith's green-rodent-head cap.

Kara sings!

Dave drums!

Steve basses!

I didn't get a good picture of Kara's odd hat. Fortunately you can sort of see it in some of the pictures on the band's website.

Dave and Steve!

A pretty energetic opener. The MP3s on their website don't have the same adrenalin level of their live gigging skills. They sound more like a piano-driven version of Young and Sexy - not that there's anything wrong with that.
