There was a nicely varied bill at Pressed last week - some electronica from Transmit vs. Intangerines, punk from new locals Torpor and some swell shoegaze from Baltimore's Natural Velvet. Here's Transmit vs. Intangerines (or Transmit and Intangerines, if you prefer) in action!
Vocal action!
Stage smokey action!
Extra smoke!
More vocals!
And so on!
Torpor played asuper set; it features members of Toxic Thoughts, Grimm and Big Guy - they also have a show coming up April 1 at Black Squirrel Books. Heres "The Rub" on bass!
Elo sings (and you can just make out Felix from Toxic Thoughts on guitar behind her).
More Felix!
"Mike" hits!
Gripping action!
More "Mike" in the middle!
Extra Elo!
Natural Velvet also did a great job wrapping things up with some wall-of-noise post-punk. Here's guitarist Spike!
Bassist Corynne sings! Kim, just behind, is the band's other guitarist.
Extra Corynne!
Close-up action!
Hair-waving action with Kim!
Bonus Spike!
Greg hits!
A fine night out.

Better luck Sunday
It's a good thing there's such a thing as Sunday shows; on Saturday I planned to check out the Heavy Bell show at Pressed, but it sold out. Then the puck show at Targ was cancelled due to burst pipes. Then the power in my building went out. Well, along comes Sunday and a show featuring some East Coast electronica acts along with a couple of local acts. First up was Low Noise Productions' Young Truck with some guitar-augmented synth sounds (which you can check out on Bandcamp if you're so inclined).
Guitar action!
Highly distorted vocal action!
Young action!
Fredericton's Wangled Teb - the nom de electronica of Indigo Poirier - was up next; you can take a listen here to their latest release.
And so on!
Next up, Transmit vs Intangerines; here's Jason (also of Final Fall0!
Electronic action!
Vocal action!
Adjusting action!
Light fixture action!
Property// is the project of New Brunswick-to-Montreal transplant Charles Harding. He's touring with a guitarist, Luke, and a cellist EMily. And here they are!
Guitar action with Luke!
Cello action with Emily!
And so on!
Adjusting action with Charles!
More adjusting with Luke!
Charles sings!
Fun stuff all around.

What's the word
On Monday I was at Black Squirrel Books for a mixed bill, starting with the synthetic sounds of Transmit vs. Intangerines (last seen at House of Targ for one of their Switched On Synths nights last month), Peterborough noise duo Deathsticks and Baltimore darkwave combo Curse. Here's some electronic action with Transmit vs Intangerines!
Well-adjusted action!
Well-stacked action!
Reaching action!
Feedback action!
Deathsticks refer to themselves as playing "lightbulb and drums." Here's Matt and his lightbulb (he also has a guitar).
Deadly action!
Laura sings!
More lightbulb!
Extra Laura!
Curse put on a dynamite set. Here's Jane and Logan!
Keyboard action!
And now a bit of drumming!
Extra Cursing!
And a bit more Laura!
Good stuff all around.
