In early August I headed over to the House of Targ for some perogies and some Petra Glynt. She was heading up a well-stacked bill with Toronto's Ice Cream and local outfit Orchidae. Unfortunately, I missed almost all of Orchidae's opening set, so here's Ice Cream, starting with some keyboard action with Carlyn!
Icy action with Amanda!
Extra Amanda!
Singalong action!
Carlyn sings!
And so on!
More singalong action!
More keyboard action!
And of course, more cowbell.
Petra Glynt has worked up a bunch of new material and even premiered a new, almost completely written song for an encore.
Petra sings!
And so on!
She's changed her setup from a floor tom to a machine, so there's a bit more running around now!
Gesticulating action!
Always a smashing set.

Waving the flag
Petra Glynt is one of those performers I try to catch whenever she's in town; when she was slated to appear on a bill with Bonnie Doon and Sparklesaurus it was plain that Targ was the place for me to be for her late November show. Here's Colleen from Sparklesaurus to start things off!
Shamisa handles the keys.
Felicity sings!
Rhythm section action with Brad!
Singalong action!
I think there was a purplish, velvety theme going on ....
Extra Brad!
Extra Shamisa!
More Colleen!
Bonnie Doon were all about the animal prints for this show. Here's new member Aymara and Lesley!
Guitar action with Madison!
Bass action with Sara!
Sharky action with Keltie!
Lesley sings!
More Keltie!
Clapping action with Aymara!
Saxophonic action!
Extra bass with Madison!
Guitar action with Sara!
Singalong action!
Petra Glynt rounded things up with a super set. She released a new album, My Flag Is A Burning Rag Of Love in September, so she had a bunch of new stuff to entertain the crowd.
Petra sings!
And so on!
Her kit has expanded a bit since I first caught her at the Dominion many years ago.
And, er, that's it!

Strange, solo and tough
For my second night of Megaphono, I went to House of Targ to see some Petra Glynt - I'm a big fan - and Tough Age. Also on the bill, Man Made Hill, who turns out to be a combination of pro-wrestling and a synth-funk B.A. Johnson. Here he is starting stuff off in his homemade mask, fur hat and purple-fringe jacket.
Fringed action!
Keyboard action!
Did I mention the leotard and fur kneepads?
Hilly action!
Petra Glynt always puts on a super show, and she was in excellent form for this set.
Percussive action!
And so on!
Petra hits!
Tough Age wrapped things up - they played as a trio, just Jarrett, Ryan and Penny. They donated their merch proceedings from the show to Black Lives Matter, and Bandcamp sales went to Trans Lifeline and the National Centre for Transgender Equality. Here's some guitar action with Jarrett, who I recently saw with Protruders at Bar Robo!
Penny sings!
Ryan hits!
More Jarrett!
Extra Penny!
Rhythm section action!
Even more Penny!
Singalong action!
More Ryan!
Penny takes a turn on guitar!
Bass action with Jarrett!
Aged action!
A great end to the week.
