Back in early September I headed over to Bar Robo to check out a trio of bands I'd never heard of; it's always a good idea to expose oneself to new sounds. On the bill were Chelsea power trio Gravelines, Ottawa pop combo Sparklesaurus and Hull's Holy Christopher. Gravelines were playing as a walked in. They bell themselves as "groovy punk rock" - I'd say they're closer to Status Quo than the Sex Pistols. Here's some bass action with Connor!
Max hits!
Connor sings!
Guitar action with Ian!
More Ian and Connor!
The whole lot!
The band that impressed me the most was Sparklesaurus; great vocals and catchy tunes. Here's some vocal action with Felicity and Colleen!
Shamisa handles the keys (and band art duties), while Brad mans the kit.
Extra Shamisa!
Brad emotes!
Bass action with Colleen!
Bonus Brad!
Extra Felicity!
Rhythm section action!
Holy Christopher head to the more energetic side of pop-punk and make me think of the early Halifax scene that gave birth to Sloan and others. Here's Andrew and Dave!
Rhythm section action with Dan and Dave!
Extra Andrew!
Bonus Dan!
Holy action!
Extra Dave!
A fun evening out.
