It's a good Autumn for fans of first-wave punk rock in Ottawa: Next
month Spectrasonic is bringing Stiff Little Fingers to the Bronson
Centre, and just a week ago we had 1970s legends UK Subs in at the House of Targ for a
jam-packed show. Ottawa's Shackles and Ape City go the honour of
opening things. Here's singer Craig!
Bass action!
Percussive action with Scotchy!
More bass and guitar with Christian and Jean!
Guitar action with Clayton!
Primate action!
Singalong action!
More Scotchy!
Roof-raising action!
Clayton sings!
On to Shackles who ripped it up in succinct fashion! Here's Will!
Scott hits!
Holly sings!
Will sings!
Shackled action!
Extra Scott!
The other side of Holly and Will!
Even more Scott!
More Will!
More Holly!
This show was also a 13th anniversary celebration for Vertigo Records, and the birthday of owner Darin, so their was birthday cake activity.
Finally, the moment Ottawa punks have been waiting for, UK Subs. The band has been soldiering on, under various lineups, for 40 years, and frontman Charlie Harper's been in the business even longer than that, having started off during the British R&B boom.
Bassist Alvin sings!
More Charlie, and yes that is Finney from The Mahones subbing on guitar (and doing a top-notch job, too).
Extra Alvin!
I just managed to squeeze to the side stage (apologies to anyone unduly jostled) for a few snaps of Finney!
Percussive action with Jamie, the youngster of the band!
A great show for the packed crowd!
