If you wanted to bang your head to some groovy music, Thursday at House of Targ was the place to do it, with some funky sounds from local combos Trunk and Gnarly Brown. Chicago's Long Live The Goat also performed, with a doom-ier sound. Trunk was about half-way through their set as I walked in the door around 10 p.m. (things got underway a little earlier than usual). I think I also detected a bit of the Manchester psychedelic sound circa Stone Roses in their tunes. Here's singer Mike!
Bass action with Jordan!
Keyboard action with Rob!
Extra Mike and Jordan!
Stefan hits!
More guitar!
Bonus Jordan!
Even more keyboard!
Hair-shaking action!
The whole lot!
Long Live The Goat played a great set. Not much info on this Illinois trio on the interwebs, so it's straight to the photos ... here's Brett on what at first glance appears to be guitar!
His brother Alex hits!
Cheery action with Jack!
Brett sings!
Jack steps on it!
Extra Brett! And if you look closely at the pickup near the base of his guitar's
neck, you'll see it has a an additional, diagonal pickup to provide some
low-end and help the trio get away without a bassist.
Brotherly action!
Brett adjusts!
Gnarly Brown closed oth the show with a funky set. Here's Ty on bass!
Guitar action with Tricky!
The shouty bit!
Extra Tricky!
Rhythm section action with Jamie!
Even more Tricky!
Faceoff action!
Jamie hits!
And so on!
Ty works the microphone!
Gnarly action!
A good night for the headbangers.
