Friday night I headed off to House of Targ for some indie rock action from Seattle's Cave Singers and Nashville's Blank Range. Blank Range made me think of the kinds of bands I was seeing in the early 2000s when Americana, as exemplified by bands like Asteroid No. 4 and Son Volt were all the rage. Here's frontman Jonathon Childers!
Keyboard action with Jonathan Rinville!
Pedal-steel action with Grant Gustafson!
Bass action with Taylor Zachry!
More steel!
Singalong action with Matt Novotny and Taylor!
Baritone action with Grant!
More Matt!
Extra Jonathon!
Extra Jonathan!
More singalong action!
Blank action!
Even more singalong action!
Cave Singers play some amiable indie rock with a back-to-basics beat. Here's guitarist and bass-pedalist Derek Fudesco. The last time I saw him perform live was way back in 1999 with The Murder City Devils at the Hi-Fi.
Soundchecking action with Pete Quirk!
Pete sings!
Percussive action with Marty Lund!
And so on!
Pete shakes it!
More Derek!
Marty plays some guitar!
A fun show.
