The Ottawa Explosion is a month away, but the Explosion crew aren't sitting around waiting for the day to book shows; They served up some fest veterans on Wednesday with a rare live Babylon show, featuring Protomartyr, who made a big splash at their performance a couple of years ago (the only OXW I've missed, so I'm going by eyewitness testimony), as well as soon-to-be festival veterans Baberaham Lincoln and Scattered Clouds. Here's a fuzzy Cory and Hillary! (For those who can't get log enough Lincoln in their lives, the band is also playing a set at Black Squirrel Books on Tuesday, with Basic Nature.)
Extra Hillary!
More Cory and a very red Jenna!
Luminescent action!
Technically difficult action!
More guitar!
More Jenna!
The lights were so low for Scattered Clouds that I busted out the flash - I can tell it's been a while because the results were a little mixed ... Here's Jamie and Mike!
Philippe works the keys!
Very red Jamie action!
Philippe sings!
Keyboard action with Mike!
The whole lot!
Feedback action!
This was my first shot at seeing Prottomartyr; I definitely get a The Fall-meets-GVSB vibe from the band. Here's drummer Alex!
Bass action with SCott!
Declamatory vocal action with Joe!
Greg on barbed wire guitar!
Extra Joe!
Extra Alex!
The whole lot!
A very nice taster of things to come.
