I was mildly surprised to see the church on the Bluesfest bill, but my eyebrows jumped clear off my head when I saw that YaHoWha 13 was coming to town. The band released nine albums starting in 1969 (and recorded heaps more of unreleased material, legend has it) of live psychedelic jams recorded at their commune. In 1975 their spiritual guide and singer, Father Yod, passed on to a higher plain due to an unfortunate hang glider accident in Hawaii. Not much was heard from them after that, but in the millennium a new interest in psychedelic music and private press records has led to a return to the stage. Galactic Zookeeper Plastic Crimewave has been one noteworthy booster (I just bought his latest issue which features an interview). I really enjoyed their improv music, which was surprisingly heavy.
Djin taps in.
Rhythm section action with Octavius and Sunflower!
Acoustic action from Djin.
Feathery action!
Lightshow action!
The whole lot! And the back of some of the audience.
More Octavius!
More Sunflower!
And some last minute Djin.
(
Edit: Some bow-taking I forgot to include earlier.)
And a belated thanks to the couple who returned my 35mm lens after I left it behind in a psychedelic stupor.
