Fire and lightning

I was lured away from John Vanderslice by Cedric Burnside and Steve "Lightnin'" Malcolm on the Subway Stage. The hard-hitting blues duo were quite a popular draw this year, attracting a fair-sized crowd to their Saturday gig and no doubt to their Sunday show as well.

Cedric Burnside is probably the better-known half of the duo, due both to his famous lineage - he's the grandson of R.L. Burnside - plus his work with his grandpa, his Uncle Duwayne's Mississippi Mafia and Hill Country bluesman and R.L. protege Kenny Brown. Also he's a heck of a drummer.

Lightnin' rocks the bling. He also has quite a resume on a number of instruments with the blues crowd.

After Lightnin' and Cedric wrapped things up I headed back to the Hard Rock Stage to catch the last bit of John Vanderslice's set.

Then it was off to wander, and make one of the festival's best discoveries.
