At the start of June I tottered over to the Dominion Tavern for another big helping of heavy metal - this time of the doomy variety. Monobrow were celebrating the release of their new album, The Nacarat, with an assist from Strange Broue and openers Longhouse, who also happen to have a fairly new album under their belt, II: Vanishing. Folks who want to see and hear more can catch them at House of Targ Aug. 19. Here's guitarist Marc!
Mike hits!
Grimacing action with Josh!
Fretful action with Mike!
Housed action!
The whole lot!
Extra Josh!
On to Strange Broue ... you might recognize most, if not all, of the folks from The Death Wheelers' appearance in September at the House of Targ opening for Cauchemar. I described them as sounding a bit like a vocals-free Electric Wizard. With Strange Broue, they've got vocals and the Electric Wizard influence is even more marked - they even opened with a song called Electric Blizzard. Such slavish devotion to the cult of Jus is entirely forgiven since they do such a bang-up job. Here's some well-dressed action!
Ecclesiastical action!
Vocal action!
Percussive action!
More guitar!
And so on!
Hairy action!
Hairier action!
Tweedy action!
Acoustic action!
Monobrow finished the night with some heavy sounds. Here's Brian!
Guitar action with Paul!
Rhythm section action with Sam!
Pick-sliding action!
Smokey action!
Synthetic action with Shane from Loviatar!
Even smokier action!
A great workout for the eardrums.
