With Cityfolk rolling into town in mid-September, there was also a bunch of music going on under the Marvest banner in venues around town. I hunkered down at the House of Targ for a couple of nights of Skreedlemania. Jeff from Neck curated the shows, which featured a bunch of Ottawa bands. Up first on Sept. 18 were Uvula. The trio features Pat and Jamie from The Flaps and soundman about town and Rhume bassist Jarrett Bartlett. Here's Pat!
Jamie hits!
Jarrett is amused.
Unlike the mostly instrumental tunes of previous Lawlor projects, there's actually singing in this one.
Jamie is also amused.
Pat frets!
Rhythm section action!
Last time I saw Slim and Popular, they were unceremoniously shut down one song into their set (the Daily Grind's neighbours appear to be much more particular about high volume than they once were). No worries about sound levels at Targ; they really blasted it out this time around.
Lars handles the low end.
Dave hits!
Brendan sings!
Extra Larry!
Singalong action!
Extra Dave!
Dual vocal action!
The whole lot!
And now for something actually folky: Tara Holloway.
Raspy-vocied action!
And so on!
Gesticulating action!
Then there was some more punky action from Audio Visceral, who hale from Vankleek Hill and who were touring with DOA around this gig. Here's guitarist Steve Beauchesne.
Steve sings!
Bass action with Kevin James!
Gary Doherty hits!
More Steve and Kevin!
More running about!
Kevin sings a bit!
The mighty Monobrow finished the night off. They recently released a two-song EP, A Handwritten Letter From The Moon. Here's Paul!
Rhythm section action with Brian and Sam!
Brian hits!
Paul frets!
Illuminated action!
Bonus Sam!
Extra Brian!
And so on!
A dynamite set.
