In a shocking twist, Saturday night I did not go over to the House of Targ. Instead I wandered down Gladstone to No. 612, current residence of Thomas of Mudplots and Spilt Guts fame. Like his neighbours at No. 614 (a.k.a. Yips House, at least for the purpose of the blog), he hosts the occasional show, and this weekend it was metal night - punk metal, old school metal, space metal and Mordor metal, that is! To put it another way, a bunch of Toronto-area folks braved the wild weekend weather and made their way to Bytown.
First up, Brampton's Wesley Crusher. There's a fair amount of member sharing among the bands, with Droid drummer Seb filling in, bassist Inti also fronting Manacle and Jacon reprising his guitar role with Droid. Thus, everybody but singer Gerry was pulling double duty that evening.
Inti handles the low end!
Seb hits!
Jacob frets!
Gripping action!
On to Manacle, who sit somewhere in the line between NWOBHM and L.A. thrash to my ears. Here's freshly acquired guitarist Phil, drummer Matt and frontman Inti.
Matt hits!
Inti sings!
Pointy guitar action, and bassist Amar at right.
Inti sings some more!
Check that vibrato!
More Phil 'n' Amar.
Bonus Matt!
Droid played a very tight set. Here's Wesley Crusher guitarist Jacob and bassist Michael.
More Seb!
Tuqued action!
Guitar-face action!
More Michael!
The whole lot!
The hooded forces of local Tolkein-loving metallurgists Barrow Wight concluded the evening.
Necromantic action!
Shrouded action!
Jo hits!
Cloaked action!
The end!
Another fine venue for house shows.
