Last week I made a Saturday sojourn to the House of Targ (no doubt I'll do the same tonight ...) to check out some heavy metal from Flying Fortress. The Toronto duo features a pair of Goat Horn veterans, Brandon Wars and Steelrider (also an alum of Cauldron). They have a new album out, Dirty Rain, on Uncle D Records. They were joined on stage by Peterborough's Cross Dog and Ottawa's own Black Tower.
Cross Dog make their noise with the bass and drums combo so popular with the kids these days, but also have some hardcore vocal action going on courtesy of Tracy A. Here's bassman Mark Rand! The folks at Uncle D decided to sign them after this show, and who can blame them?
And here's Tracy (a blurry Mike Reid is behind her on the drums).
Tracy is not one of those performers who stands still, as dozens of motion-blurred photos on my Flickr account will attest.
Rhythm section action!
Mark sings!
Hair-shaking action!
The shouty bit!
The whole lot!
Mikey hits!
Dogged action! I took a few flash photos since I wasn't sure how much would turn out decent with all the running about ....
Gripping action!
On to Black Tower, keeping it evil and bespectacled.
Old school T-shirt action from Dave!
Ering sings!
Skottie handles the low end.
Disco ball action!
Singalong action!
Towering action!
Knee-banding action!
Finally, Flying Fortress fired off a crushing set of bass-and-drum driven metal; mighty catchy stuff too. Here's Steelrider!
And of course Mr. Wars.
Steelrider hits!
Brandon sings!
For those who don't know, Uncle D Records is Vertigo Records record-releasing arm.
Beer!
Percussive action!
The whole hairy lot!
Definitely a rewarding night!
