It's record release time again, with Ottawa bass'n'drums combo Big Dick unleashing their new 12-incher on Dirt Cult records at the Dominion Tavern Saturday night. I skedaddled over to the Dom at an earlier hour than usual, because last time I went (for Loviatar's own release show) they stopped letting people in just as I got through the door. Notwithstanding another big draw over at Mavericks (the Punk Rock Covers show, that is), the place was pretty packed. If not a sellout, close to it. This is what happens when you share a bill with such hot domestic and imported outfits as T.O.'s Neon Windbreaker and Ottawa's Boyhood.
I seem to be getting amonthly ration of Boyhood of late: I've seen them play in December, January and February, and they've been swell every time. They were a trio for this gig.

And here's Callum, who I saw just the night before at Pressed, playing with his own band, Grime Kings.

On to Neone Windbreaker. They've been making quite a name for themselves on the Toronto music scene, and not just because they once sold an EP packaged with a sandwich and download. They've got a pretty tough post-punk via Jesus Lizard sound with a hefty dose of guitar chug and vocal yowling.
"Hi there, we're Robot Kill City," joked singer Eric Warner as they took the stage. Also - Peach Kelli Pop T-shirt!

Big Dick are another band I've seen a bunch of in the past six months (I have photos from shows in August and September of last year yet to be posted ...). Dave Secretary played this show with 16 staples in his leg after recent surgery - that's pretty hard core.

Headbanging action!

Things got pretty crazy in the audience during the encore, with bits of the drum kit being toppled, so the last song came to an abrupt end.
