You can add another festival to the list of events filling out the summer schedule. This most worthy addition is the Ottawa Psych Festival, which had its inaugural night at the House of Targ on July 7. It was also something of a Cardinal Fuzz showcase. The first performers of the evening were The Golden Rule, a laidback duo formed by CF founder Dave and Brett from Dead Sea Apes. Here's Dave!
Brett frets!
Psychedelic backdrop action!
More Dave!
They played a very brief set, then it was time for Mark Alexander McIntyre, of TBWNIAS, Weapons of Mass Seduction, Cold Coffee & Salty Boots, Four'N'Giv'r and so on!
"Millionaire!"
The other shouty side!
Adjusting action!
After those two short sets, it was time for TBWNIAS to stretch things out a bit. Here's John shaking things a bit!
Jason adjusts.
More John!
Headstock-tapping action with Nate!
Psychedelic action with Bill and Nate!
Extra Jason!
Dave frets!
Trumpet action with Scott!
More Bill and Nate!
Molten action with John!
More Nate!
Symbolic action!
Kitchener's Hawkeyes are a band I've been hankering to see for some time - I can recall yapping about them on social media a couple of years ago. They definitely put on a heavyweight show. Here's some guitar action with a very blurry Ryan, Ron, Chris and Patrick!
More guitar with (I think, there are four guitarists to keep straight in this band!) Patrick and Chris!
Even more guitar!
Flying V action!
Stacey hits!
Les Paul action!
Bass action with Rob!
Illuminated action!
Wah action!
And so on!
Adjusting action!
Even more, more guitar!
More Stacey!
Just think, a few short months I was living a sad, Shooting Guns-less existence, but now I've managed to see them perform three times since October. Huzzah! They put on a fantastic, only somewhat inebriated set to finish the night off. Here's some bass action with Jay!
Moog and guitar action with (I think) Steve and Zach!
Grimacing action with Keith!
Guitar action with Chris!
More Steve!
Jim hits!
More Zach!
Extra Keith and Jay!
And er, that's it! I'm already looking forward to the next OPF in 2019!
