I didn't have a chance to get out much last week thanks to a touch of food poisoning, but in a rare moment of not feeling terrible I headed over to Bar Robo to listen to a bunch of unknown (to me) bands. Well, the first, Droney Girl, isn't actually unknown - it's three members of Pony Girl playing drone music. This is in keeping with my brief history of hearing Pony Girl not sounding like Pony Girl (the only other time I've seem them they were all acoustic). They sounded really great, too. Here's some adjusting action with Julien!
Jeff on percussion and synths!
Clarinet action with Yolande!
More guitar with Julien!
Droning action!
The whole lot!
Jeff multitasks!
Mr. Walter come from Montreal and have a soulful pop sound that had me thinking of Sade. They also got into the Halloween spirit with some fancy dress. Here's a sparkly Gabrielle!
Keyboard action with Loukas!
Dinosaur jammies action with Nikolas! That's an obscured Etienne on bass - I couldn't get any good pictures of him or drummer Remy.
More jammies with Karolane!
More spangly action with Gabrielle!
Karolane sings!
Extra Nikolas and Loukas!
Walterian action!
And so on!
Toronto's Delta Will finished things off with some melancholy pop sounds that reminded me of Antlers. I gather they started as a somewhat bluesy solo project and have since transmogrified into one with more electronic influences and more members. Here's founder Charles!
Percussive action with Louis!
Bass action with Milan!
Brandon, Charles and far too much microphone stand!
Keyboard action with Brandon!
Singalong action!
Bass action with Brandon!
Great sets from all three bands!
