After a quick bite to eat on Friday, I headed back to the Ottawa Explosion to check out the evening's slate of music, starting with Ottawa's gravelly folk-punkers Dead Weights.
Faceoff action!
More guitar!
Rhythm section action!
The shouty bit!
Laser-guided percussive action!
More singing!
I popped back over to the SAW Gallery courtyard to catch some of the festival's comedy showcase, but it wasn't really my thing.
So, back to Mugshots for some Dead Weights singalong action!
Allright, here's the tail end of showcase host Greg Houston's standup bit.
Setting up behind him, Philadelphia's Sheer Mag, who put on one of my favourite sets of the festival. Here's drummer Allen Chapman.
Christina Hallyday works the microphone. Brothers Kyle and Hart Seely are behind her.
Matt Palmer rocks the SG.
More Christina!
Bonus brothers!
Allen hits!
The other side of the Seely brothers!
The crowd goes wild!
That done, I headed back to Mugshots to check out Finderskeepers. Yes, Devin and Chris found a babysitter for their new tot, so the show must go on!
Jon sings! "I just know the baby is going to replace me!"
The whole lot!
Chris frets!
Chris sings!
I did a lot of running around on Friday; this time I scampered back to the courtyard to check out mod masters The Tranzmitors, who made a quick jaunt East from Vancouver to play some tunes in the vicinity.
Here's bassist Mike!
And guitarist Nick!
Singalong action!
Jeff sings!
Bryce hits!
Then I dashed back to Mugshots for a bit of rough-and-ready combo Boilermaker, a Chicago combo who like their noise hard (and, apparently, Brazilian death metal). Here's guitarist Jim Gies!
Boiling action!
Rhythm section action with bassist Kris di Benedetto and drummer Joey Kappel!
Kris is a bendy fellow.
Manly action!
More shouting with Jim!
Now that's what I call a rock jump.
At the top of the gallery's courtyard bill were hometown heroes The White Wires; Allie made the trip up to Ottawa to handle drum duties and there was much enthusiasm from the crowd. Here's Ian!
Allie hits!
Ian sings!
Luke rocks the low end.
The whole lot!
Some microphone-stand abuse forced Ian and Luke to double up.
Repair action with Pierre!
Extra Allie!
And that's all I'll post for now or else this damn thing will never get out the door.
