A few years back I went to the New Bayou (the club whose space is now occupied by the House of Targ) to catch Belgian first-wave punks The Kids. The put on a dynamite show, accompanied by local lights Germ Attak and Critical Convictions. Seven years later they're back, and still kicking up a storm, this time at Gabba Hey with locals Chloroform and Montreal's Proxy. Chloroform kicked things off with their usual relentless punk attack.
Scott hits!
Rick sings!
The whole lot!
Extra Scott!
Bass action!
Upstanding action!
Falling down action!
On to Proxy, a band I didn't know anything about, though they have a very good reputation in their native Montreal. Various members have done time in truncheons and Inepsy. They certainly lived up to it with a barky set that made me think of U.K. Subs.
Vocal action!
Bass action!
Heleted action!
Substitute action!
A shouty bit!
Percussive action!
On to The Kids; everything I said about their New Bayou gig goes for their Gabba Hey set as well. They've switched out their rhythm section (metalcore vet Tim Jult and Lef V. Lomell now provide the drive), but other that that it's business as usual! Here's Luc Van de Poel and Ludo Marian!
Singalong action!
Ludo sings!
Tim hits!
Extra Luc!
A shouty bit with Lef!
The crowd goes wild!
Extra Tim!
They wrapped things up with some Ramones.
