After hitting up Black Squirrel Books last week I headed down a couple of doors to the House of Targ for some rocking action from local Velvet Underground lovers Nightshades, Toronto paleontologists Mass and visiting luminaries Divers. I swear I was listening to all these bands back in the late eighties, before several of their members were actually born ...
Shady action!
Bass action with Sarah!
Mallory sings, Geoff hits!
Even more Geoff!
Singalong action!
The whole lot!
Blueish action!
Even more Geoff!
Rhythm section action!
On to mass, who definitely rock that grunge sound; I thought they sounded uncannily like early Dinosaur Jr. Although they hail from Toronto, they're actually Ottawa expats - from bands such as Robot Kill City among others. Here's singer Mark and drummer Andrew!
Hair tossing action!
"I'd like to thank everyone, except Dave Forcier for stealing my face." It's true, there's quite a resemblance!
Mark sings!
The whole lot!
More Mike!
Singalong action!
Andrew sings!
Head-banging action!
Portland, Oregon's Divers have been grabbing a lot of attention for their latest, bank-robbery-spree-themed album Hello Hello. It's an enjoyable work, but it pales in comparison to their absolutely killer live show. Here's singer and T-shirt abuser Harrison Rapp!
Brother Seth rocks the SG.
Colby Hulsey hits!
More Harrison (and bassist James Deegan)!
The view from the other side of the stage!
Harrison is definitely one of the most intense performers I've had the pleasure to lay eyes on!
James sings!
Diverse action!
Running about!
More running about!
Mighty fine performances all around!
