Once more we pay a visit to the Department of Better Late Than Never, and also the House of Targ. Yes, I was visiting the south side again while most of Ottawa's music community was exploding downtown (reasons for which, see previous post). My trip to the land of perogies and pinball was also an opportunity to see what the latest musical project from Dave Martindale of Double Pumpers, Ukrainia and Gilmer Ditch fame (along with fellow ditch diggers Paul "Yogi" Granger and Danny Barber). Also on the bill, Boston's Slow Mover and local heavies Electric Ruin.
The new band goes by MBG (or "the law firm of Martindale, Barber and Granger" as the wags have it) and travels the same much the same waters as The aforementioned Ditch and Pumpers (And the occasional Misfits cover). Here's Dave and Yogi!
Face-making action with Danny!
Yogi, back behind the traps!
Singalong action!
Dave frets!
Bonus Barber!
Closeup action!
Extra Yogi!
Gripping action!
Danny sings!
Legal action!
On to Electric Ruin, who I first saw at the House of Targ's old home at Greenfield and Main. They started things off with a slow build. Here's Jason Wickware and Ray Dickman.
More guitar with Phil Champagne!
Dave Touchette sings!
More Phil!
Extra Jason and Ray (and some blurry Eric Dickman on drums).
Less blurry Eric!
Gripping action!
Rhythm section action!
Electric action!
Slow Mover finished things off. They were billed as stoner metal, but actually had a more punkish, abrasive sound than I usually associate with that genre. They have a pair of singing guitarists, so don't ask me if this is Andy or Ollie ...
However, this is Matty and Stevey.
And this would be Ollie or Andie.
Headbanging action!
Feedback action!
More Mattie and Stevie!
Stevey hits!
Even more feedback!
Unfortunately, I once again had to split before they finished.
