There were plenty of shows I could have gone to Saturday night, but in the end I just made the short trek to Babylon for the Lefty McRighty DJed Dark and Stormy Night to check out the Steve Adamyk Band, the ever-crazy Tropical Dripps and the latest iteration of Brendan Flynn's Terrible Liars. Of course I asked Lefty for the lowdown on his hoedown showdown (to make a long story short, those with a mind to help him fight off the legal attentions of Capital Hoedown supremo Denis Benoit should ready themselves for Capital Super Successfest on April 3 at the Rainbow). Here's Lefty on the wheels of steel ... er, okay on the laptop of whatever.
On to the music, starting with the Terrible Liars. Davey Quesnelle is now on board, and things were sounding a lot more Twin-Tone than at the last gig by the band I witnessed, when they were opening for The John Henrys at Mavericks.
Percussive action!
Terrible action!
Brendan sings!
"I brought show shoes so I wouldn't be swimming in my Sorels." That about sums up the winter band experience ...
Twin cities action!
Davey rips it up.
Rhythm section action!
Brendan twists!
On to the wild and crazy surf sounds of Tropical Dripps. As you'd expect with a Fun-Boy Club House associated act, things got pretty crazy in the crowd. First, some more twist action!
Jumping about with Kurt from The Yips!
Mikey sings!
The whole lot!
Hair-shaking action!
Kieran hits!
Mikey goes down!
Kurt sings!
The crowd flips for Dripps!
Tropical action!
Tumbling action!
The end!
The Steve Adamyk Band wrapped things up ... here's some rhythm section action with Seb and David.
Steve sings!
David hits!
Bangs-tossing action!
Bendy guitar action!
Extra Davey!
Assorted rocking about!
Kicking action!
Steve and Co. are recently returned from recording in California, so I assume some more music is imminent ...
