There were a couple of places I could have been Friday night, but it's been a while since I was at Zaphod's, so I decided to go and check out We Are Wolves and Suuns, two bands from the Montreal indie scene making a buzz right now. Even if they were both rubbish, it would also be an oportunity to see Scattered Clouds again, one of my new fave combos.
Kronick hits!
Philippe sings!
Pierre-Luc frets!
Scattered action!
The whole lot!
More Jamie!
Pierre-Luc sings!
Some Suuns and We Are Wolves after the jump ...
We Are Wolves come from Montreal's art world, and they certainly put a little extra effort into their stage show, with odd costumes and a pair of giant revolving posters of someone's pompadoured head. Here's frontman Alexander Ortiz!
A well-disguised Pierre-Luc Begin!
Vincent Levesque rounds out the trio on keyboards.
Guitar action!
There was some disrobing as the show went on.
Underlit action!
Singalong action!
Alexander goes down!
Bonus Vincent!
Mixed success with shirt removal.
They wrapped up their set with a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid. Suuns also play synth-driven rock, but it's less bouncy, and features more teeth-clenching and feedback. They also turned the lights down, so my photos are all a bit grainy. Here's some keyboard action from Max Henry ...
Percussive action with Liam O'Neill!
Joe Yarmush frets!
Time to adjust some dials!
Bendie action with Ben Shemie, over in a darkened corner of the stage.
Blue action!
Guitar acion!
Gripping action!
More bending!
The end!
Great show and an excellent turnout, too.
