I have good memories of several sets among this year's Ottawa Explosions, and offerings from Montreal's Thee Nodes and Hamilton's TV Freaks were among them. When I heard both would be performing at Mugshots this Friday as part of Funhouse!, I knew just were I'd be last night. In addition to those crazy characters, Brannock, Pennsylvania's Blood Red were on hand to start things off with some polemical punk.
Prepare for re-education, people of Ottawa!
Bass action with Cassie Staub!
A shouty bit with Dave Rosenstraus (formerly of Pissed Jeans)!
Double action with Cassie!
Garrett Corbin hits, turns 30!
Fisheye action!
The whole lot!
Cassie sings!
Dave works the crowd!
With some guest guitar action courtesy of Dave from TV Freaks.
On to Thee Nodes and TV Freaks, after the jump!
Well, if there's one thing Freaks and Nodes share, it's extroverted frontmen. The Node-in-Chief probably takes things a bit further. Half man, half mummy, half monkey, you can be sure if there's something to climb on, it will be ascended and/or swung from. But first, half-naked drummer action with Vietnam Sam!
And they're off!
Up, up and away!
And down again!
More guitar from Marc the Narc!
Bass action with Slick Nick!
Mr. Node gets close!
What a swinger!
Rhythm section action!
More Node!
The end!
Finally, TV Freaks came on and wrapped things up with a bunch of tunes from their new album plus a bunch of old favourites. Things were getting pretty hectic, so I stood back for most of their set.
More rhythm!
Tattooed action with Dave!
Those Freaks!
Dave works the crowd!
Fisheye action!
After that I retreated a bit ....
Shirtless action!
Wild stuff!
