It's been a while since I've crossed the threshold of Raw Sugar, but Jeans Boots was on a bill with a bunch of other likely suspects, so I figured I'd head on over and see what was what. The headliner was Kelly McMichael, who has performed with Rouge and The Forest City Lovers, while the opener, Yuma County, is staffed with a bevy of familiar Centretown faces also seen in The Allrights, Johnnies, etc.
Here's a somewhat sideways shot of Dave Banoub (with a fuzzy Sara Wotherspoon behind him on drums). The sound is rootsy with a bit of country; there was a cover of a Mountains Goat song in there as well.

Mel Sturk is the first person I've seen playing a tablet at a show - it was producing some pretty good organ sounds. Colin Majid plays the bass. Jim Sproull rounds out the band on trumpet and guitar.

Last time I saw Jeans Boots, she was performing with band in a fuzzy pop vein. There was some fuzzed pop as well, plus som trip hop, hip hop and son - but no band, since apparently half of the duo that was supposed to show got arrested. "Not this half," Jeans noted.

Guitar action!

Kelly McMichael has performed in and with a bunch of different people (including Gentlemen Reg and Ohbijou). She's named her backing band (featuring Robin Love and Emmett Clancy on this occasion) The Gloss.

Robin was walking around on crutches prior to the show, but managed to stand for the performance "And it only took two beers!"

A very pleasant evening. I would have bought one of Jeans Boots CDs, but I spent my last dollars on a Nanaimo bar.
