Make love not war

Just a few days ago I posted that Pregnancy Scares would be performing at the Dominion Tavern Nov. 9. Well, the night arrived! So off I went to one of Ottawa's few remaining taverns (hopefully not getting more scarce by the day in the Elmdale's case) to see them Scares along with Asile and Peace, two excellent bands I've seen and enjoyed before.

First, Peace. The Vancouverites are touring the land behind their new Suicide Squeeze release, The World Is Too Much With Us. Last time I saw them was at Capital Rehearsal Studios in April 2011, along with Crosss. I'd heard them accurately described as Mark E. Smith meets The Modern Lovers. This time around I thought singer Daniel Geddes was a ringer for Edwyn Collins.

More guitar with axeman Michael Willock.

Next up some Motorhead loving punk from Asile, who really had the crowd moshing.

They also played a cover of Anti-Cimex's War Machine.

And finally Pregnancy Scares ripped through their set; they have a new 7-inch out on Deranged Records. Those crazy characters!
