Lost and found

I've been wanting to see Toronto's Quest For Fire for some time now, since I've really enjoyed both their albums. I've also been hearing a torrent of praise for newish hardcore combo Asile (most recently in the pages of Standard Issue). I was glad to see them sharing a bill, with mighty Kentucky outfit Coliseum no less, and quickly snapped up a ticket. I'm glad to say the show last night was no disappointment.

Asile kicked things off with an awesome set of crushing hardcore; it was really an unrelenting wave of awesome. I know of guitarist And from Critical Convictions and Trioxin 245; this band's a keeper too.

Quest For Fire have two moods: Faster, shorter and harder psyche tunes and slightly more extended, jammier and hazier numbers. Needless to say the shorter numbers fit in better with the evening.

Finally Coliseum came up and killed it, occasionally being joined on stage by a guy in the crowd who danced like crazy to every band. Usually eternally smiling bassist Mike Pascal does all the bouncing around, but he was feeling a bit under the weather so they drafted a replacement ...

A really great night if you like it loud.
