A week ago I headed over to the Dominion for a big dose of 1980s nostalgia, with a trio of acts that had me thinking of British groups like The Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and New Order. First on stage was Billy Moon, a band from Hamilton. They've professed their admiration for bands like Jeff The Brotherhood, and I definitely heard that in their set. Here's frontman Graham!
Percussive action!
Lunar action!
More lunar action!
And so on!
Amplifier-standing action!
Extra Graham!
Graham goes down!
Onfiilm brought a crowd to the stage - two dancers in addition to the quartet of musicians - and played some deadpan fuzz rock while swathed in a video projection. Here's guitar action with Colin!
Frontman Jordan sings!
A shadowy dancer, Monkeyjunk's Matt and more guitar!
More dancing!
Extra Colin!
I busted out the flash for a couple of shots; that's bassist Ryan at right. The dancers are Zoe and Tess.
Filmy action!
Extra Tess and Ryan!
Even more Jordan!
The view from the side of the stage!
And so on!
Extra Matt!
Heat has been getting boffo reviews for their live show, and with a new album, Overnight, out late January I dare say we're going to be hearing about them a lot more in the months to come. I hear a lot of New Order in their sound. Here's singer Susil and drummer Alex!
Bass action with Raphael!
Guitar action with Matthew!
Alex hits!
Guitar action with Susil!
More Matthew!
More smoke!
Singalong action!
Heated action!
The whole lot!
Feedback action!
Pretty impressive!
