It looks like Winter festivals in Ottawa are officially a thing now, because a week after Megaphono's successful inaugural offer, the Ottawa explosion folks staged another edition of their Ottawa Implosion in conjunction with Bruised Tongue's anniversary. Much of the action took place at Gabba Hey, with House of Targ also serving as a host. I was elsewhere for Thursday's Targ danceathon, but headed over to Gabba Hey through the godawful cold for some pop and rock action courtesy of locals Ladyboy and Boyhood and Haligonians Monomyth and Quaker Parents.
First up, Ladyboy, a new band of postpunkers.
They've got a Bandcamp with some cool sounds, but not much in the way of other information.
Guitar action!
Boyish action!
More guitar!
Gripping action!
On to Quaker Parents, who share some membership with Monomyth and hit me with a jonathan Richman type vibe.
Singalong action!
Matt Peters hits!
Parental action!
More guitar!
Monomyth were up next with more California jangle and tangle.
More guitar!
The whole lot!
Bass action!
Goofy action!
Boyhood finished off the evening; this was also an album release show for them. They're really pursuing the electronic direction, though guitars aren't completely by the wayside ... but first there were some keyboard issues to be worked out.
Bass action with Luke!
Caylie sings!
And so on!
Knob-twisting action!
Alex works the keys!
More keyboard action!
Extra Luke!
Silhouetted action!
Brother Calum also showed up for some late-show drumming.
A swell evening.
