Now for a brief post from last week, when I was in the mood for something a bit low-key on Friday, so I headed over to Bara Robo for a show featuring Brooklyn's Liz Hogg and Ottawa's Death Metal Witch, who started things off with an acoustic set.
And so on!
On to Liz (whose last name is pronounced with a long o, like hello, incidentally), an eclectic performer in both classical acoustic style and weirdo DIY pop on the electric, which is the style she stuck to at Bar Robo.
More Liz!
Liz sings!
Even more Liz!
Well, you can only take so many different pictures of someone with a guitar unless they're jumping around a lot, and this was definitely a non-jumping show.

Sign of the Cross
Cross Dog are one of those bands it's good to check out at every opportunity - they always put on a fierce set. This House of Targ show also featured a couple of bands I haven't seen enough of lately Wire Cuffs and Quiet Crimes, and Deathsticks, who its never a bad idea to see. Wire Cuffs started things off with some old school style punk. Here's Slim and Popular's Brendan on vocals!
Bass action with Janine!
More Devin and Brendan!
More Janine!
Callum hits!
More Devin!
Devin sings!
More Callum!
Guitar action with Kris!
Bonus Brendan!
More Janine and Kris!
Brendan shows off his moves!
I caught Deathsticks just last month opening for Metz, and once again they ripped it up. Here's Matt!
Laura sings!
The whole lot!
More Matt!
Extra Laura!
Closeup action!
Laura sings some more!
On to Quiet Crimes, who strangely enough I've only caught live once (at a Remembrance Day show last year at the Dom), despite crossing paths with at least two-thirds of the band fairly often and enjoying their QUOTSA-grunge-desert rock sound. Anyway, here's some bass action with Chris!
Mike sings!
Tony hits!
And so on!
Mike prepares to step on something.
Rhythm section action!
More bass!
Quiet action!
Criminal action!
The whole lot!
Singalong action!
Even more Mike!
More rhythm section!
On to the always intense Cross Dog. Here's Tracy!
Guitar action with Mark, apparently rocking the Andrew W.K. look!
More Tracy!
Dogged action!
Bendy action!
Singalong action!
Mikey hits!
And so on!
More Mark!
Cross action!
Mark sings!
More Mark and Mikey!
Gripping action!
The whole lot!
The end!
A new album is apparently on its way!
