The second of my stops a week ago was at Bar Robo - the Friday - to see Miesha & The Spanks, who are on tour in support of their Girls, Girls, Girls album. Expanda Fuzz served as a most apprpriate opener for the Western duo. Here's Leila and Chris!

Going places
I bopped over to House of Targ last week to check out Danish post-punkers Foreign Resort. Also on the bill, Coastal Pigs and Deathsticks. I forgot how early those midweek Targ shows start and missed Deathsticks, so here's some Coastal Pigs, starting with bassist Scott (seen just a few days later at Targ performing with The Fucking Machines).

Foreign Resort have a very 1980s sound; they made me think of The Cure and other bands from my misbegotten youth. They've done the SXSW-CMW twofer and are now on a cross-Canadian tour. Here's drummer Morten!
Mikkel sings!
Morten hits!
String-whacking action with Steffan!
He's a lively fellow.
Rhythm section action!
Steffan sings!
Gripping action!
The whole lot!
Instrument-switching-and-hair-shaking action!
Mikkel takes a spin on guitar.
More rhythm section action!
A fun night out.

The velvet hour
There was a nicely varied bill at Pressed last week - some electronica from Transmit vs. Intangerines, punk from new locals Torpor and some swell shoegaze from Baltimore's Natural Velvet. Here's Transmit vs. Intangerines (or Transmit and Intangerines, if you prefer) in action!
Vocal action!
Stage smokey action!
Extra smoke!
More vocals!
And so on!
Torpor played asuper set; it features members of Toxic Thoughts, Grimm and Big Guy - they also have a show coming up April 1 at Black Squirrel Books. Heres "The Rub" on bass!
Elo sings (and you can just make out Felix from Toxic Thoughts on guitar behind her).
More Felix!
"Mike" hits!
Gripping action!
More "Mike" in the middle!
Extra Elo!
Natural Velvet also did a great job wrapping things up with some wall-of-noise post-punk. Here's guitarist Spike!
Bassist Corynne sings! Kim, just behind, is the band's other guitarist.
Extra Corynne!
Close-up action!
Hair-waving action with Kim!
Bonus Spike!
Greg hits!
A fine night out.
